Slow Down Ageing with Wrinkle Treatments

By Anne Fennell

Cosmetic treatments have advanced tremendously in the recent years, particularly when it comes to the treatment for facial wrinkles. No one wants to be though of as "old" but sadly in this world, having younger looking skin is very important and if there are visible wrinkles others will not find a person as attractive.

But what do wrinkle treatments involve? Treatments in this area are offered by a wide variety of medical professionals, however, what information should you have before deciding? Here we take a closer look at wrinkle treatments in general.

What goes along with receiving wrinkle treatments?

Damage to our skin can come from a variety of sources, pollutants in the atmosphere coming from vehicle exhaust, potentially harmful UV exposure from the sun, smoke, many things contribute to this. The skin forms these wrinkles that are seen on the face, and the more there is, the less attractive some people consider you to be, unfortunately.

Removing wrinkles is achieved by using botulinum toxin, as it is an effective wrinkle treatment. Other treatments can include chemical peels, laser treatments and even just plain old skin creams. While all of these are often used, it appears that botox injections are now becoming more and more popular. However, these days anti-wrinkle creams are being advertised all the time, so while they may be popular they may not necessarily be the most effective.

Which is the most effective treatment?

Unfortunately there is no clear answer to this question. Depending on the patient and the type of wrinkles on their face, a treatment that will help them best will be determined and administered. The effectiveness of treatments using botox injections or other dermal fillers is well known, so more and more people appear to be choosing this method.

How long do treatments last for?

The effects correlate to the particular treatment that is provided. The amount of time that a skin cream will be noticeable is not long, and daily use may not even make a big difference. More advanced treatments such as dermal fillers and botox injections can last a few months.

Price of treatment compared to effectiveness

For treatments such as these, it can't be done for a bargain price. The process chosen and the treatment provider are the deciding factors in cost, it can be around $300 or even up to $3000 or more, as these advanced treatments take specialized equipment, materials, and training. Creams are obviously a lot cheaper but require more regular application, meaning they need to be purchased a lot more often. Treatments over time can be more closely examined, and the cost effectiveness of each one can be determined. It looks like for treatment of facial wrinkles, dermal fillers such as botox treatments are the most economical, in the big picture. Some physicians believe that the CO2 laser is the most cost effective measure.

Recovery time after treatment

There are no side effects to recover from when using skin creams, no healing required. Microdermabrasion looks right now to likely be the quickest healing procedure of the specialized treatments available. This of course does not mean that it is the greatest treatment available, or that patients prefer the treatment process any more, as it is reported to be kind of unpleasant.

Conclusion

Wrinkle treatments for facial wrinkles are many. Each of them has their own upsides and downsides. Patients should take all of these things into careful consideration, including looking at the provider's credentials and experience, the price, and which treatments they feel they can handle best.
